BE BRAVE LIKE UKRAINE
BRAVERY IS STRONGER THAN BOMBS
UKRAINE IS THE CAPITAL OF BRAVE PEOPLE
Ukrainian Medical Education under Fire:
HealthCare in Danger
The aggression and violence of the russian federation have caused enormous losses and damages to the people of Ukraine since the morning of February 24, 2022.

There is no region and sphere of life that has not been affected. Evidence of attacks by russian occupants on HealthCare Workers, clinical and educational facilities and patients had been numerously reported. The war also disrupted the delicate microenvironment of medical students and junior physicians learning and training.

The concept of medical 'brain drain' will be avoided and safety of students and teachers will be ensured with the Kyiv Medical University's brave mission aiming at relocating part of our community to the Republic of Poland.

About The Mission
Medical students and physicians are amongst the most educated and respected members of a society. Their presence is vital for a functioning of the local health system, particularly in times of war.

Medical schools in Ukraine are facing challenges in staff recruitment, adequate resource provision, reduce access to educational and clinical infrastructure. To not drive down academical and clinical standards, the students have to be relocated to the place free of war. Medical students' training must continue!

The main goal of the humanitarian mission is to relocate students and educators of KMU to the safe educational environment created in Poland.

As this brave mission requires significant resources, KMU announces fundraising campaign aimed at saving the Future HealthCare Workers.

The Commitments
Continuity of the Study Process
Ensure the continuity of the study process for Ukrainian students, international students and clinical residents of the University along with timely completion of studies with issuance of diplomas to graduate students.
Clinical Practicals
Arrange comprehensive medical, dental and pharmaceutical practicals for students and residents to compensate the shortage of access to bedside learning in Ukraine.
Workplaces
Recreate workplaces for 150 educators and healthcare workers giving them opportunity to continue professional activity, not to lose qualification, to socialise in a new environment, to get financial independence, without creating additional burden on local and state budgets of Poland.
Financial Aid for Ukrainians
Considering the difficult financial state of Ukrainian citizens and their families, due to severely damaged Ukraine's economy -- to reimburse one-year of tuition fees. Students must not lose their education.
Psychosocial Help
Provide psychological first aid focused on humane and supportive practical and emotional assistance to people who have been recently exposed to highly stressful events.
Health System Implications
Preserve the future generation of HCWs, who will rebuild the national Healthcare System.
Steady Admission of the I-st Year Students
As current students need to continue their studies, school graduated need to start it! We are willing to ensure smooth and safe enrolment process in Poland for the I-st year students, giving them an alternative path to study in Ukrainian University, but in safe environment.
Temporary Shelter for Students and Educators Who Lost Their Homes
During this horrifying war lots of Ukrainians lost their homes, therefore lost control of their lives. They don't know where to go or what to do. Our initiative aimed at delivering financial support for students, educators and management to have free housing for one year in Poland.
Healthcare and Scientific Integration into the EU
Ukraine has a huge creative and scientific capital that has not been well integrated into the European scientific environment. Now, many Ukrainian bright minds were forced to leave to earn a living. We want to start the integration of Ukrainian educational system into European one with the stable work in Kyiv Medical University Branch Campus in Poland.
"Europe stands by those in need of protection. All those fleeing Putin's bombs are welcome in Europe. We will provide protection to those seeking shelter and we will help those looking for a safe way home."
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission
Who we are
Kyiv Medical University was established in 1992 and is the first private medical university in the independent Ukraine. Today the sphere of KMU competence is Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical training in various forms (full-time, part-time, and distance learning), organizing scientific educational events and publications. KMU implements the latest evidence-based medicine data at all stages of its educational process – at Graduate and Postgraduate levels with all available instruments and resources with great emphasis on bedside teaching, individual and group-work in KMU state-of-the-art Center for Simulation Training and Assessment (CSTA) and, certainly, e-learning. At the Postgraduate level, the concept of study throughout life is supported, offering Internship (Residency), Clinical Residency, Advanced Training, Seminars and Conferences of all-Ukrainian and international scale.

KMU has always put lots of effort into being socially responsible by supporting those in need. One of such success stories, among many, is the implementation of a United Nations Development Project (UNDP) in 2015-2016 sponsored by the Japanese Government (Contract # 00083016- 2015/PS/83), which made it possible to employ over 70 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Ukraine from Donbass Region and Crimea after they were invaded by russian.

WHY THIS MISSION MATTERS
Health systems depend on local educational structures to facilitate training of an adequate supply of health professionals. Inadequate levels of physicians are associated with increased population disease burden and a reduction in health system performance.

In armed conflicts, medical students and health care workers are being targeted in attacks. The reality is that Ukraine may be left without qualified medical personnel for decades to come.
  • Medicine cannot be studied from basement
During the active combats mostly students have to sit in shelters while visiting classes. This is not acceptable and we want to change it.
  • Talented educators have no job
Jobs of 900 educators and clinicians of KMU involved in the study process are threatened in such a way that it has never been before.
  • Future doctors need practice
Practice in an essential component of medical or pharmaceutical studies. Hospitals in Ukraine are now not available for it in the required scope.
  • Life of lifesavers is in danger
Any bullet or missile fired can take the life of someone who could have saved hundreds
What our students say
  • I sincerely hope that this unfavorable situation will end as soon as possible and that we will be able to meet each other at the university, as I am in contact with students and my classmates, half of them in their own countries and half in Europe (mostly Poland and Germany).
I have talked to my friends, we will be honored to return to Ukraine immediately after the war and continue studying and celebrate our graduation at our university with professors and administrators.
    Slava Ukraini!

  • Being fay away from our Alma-Mater, my group-mates, which have basically became my second family, and our educators, I feel incredibly lonely.
I extremely miss the times when we had possibility to meet each other face-to-face every day and I hope so much, that this will happen again very soon!
    Stand with Ukraine! 💛💙
